Thursday 15th September


Burnished Brass
A very quiet night with just 47 moths and just 6 species, these are as follows, 3 Burnished Brass, 10 Large Yellow Underwing, 8 Common Rustic, 21 Setaceous Hebrew Character, 2 Common Wainscot and 3 Brimstone.

Wednesday 14th September

A total of 113 moths were caught last night but with just 11 species, these are as follows, 18 Large Yellow Underwing, 3 Burnished Brass, 17 Common Rustic, 6 Angle shades, 9 Brimstone, 3 Light Emerald, 45 Setaceous Hebrew Characters, 2 Large Thorn,  3 Common Wainscot, 1 The Flame and The Snout .

Tuesday 13th September




Convolvulus Hawk Moth
The overnight catch brought a total of 163 moths including 15 species. Best of all was a Convolvulus Hawk Moth a beauty to say the least. Also noted was 21 Large Yellow Underwing, 2 Broad-boardered Yellow Underwing, 3 Burnished Brass, 12 Common Rustic, 6 Angle shades, 9 Brimstone, 10 Light Emerald, 75 Setaceous Hebrew Characters, 6 Large Thorn, 2 Frosted Orange, 3 Common Wainscot, 3 Flame Shoulder, 7 The Snout and 3 Dark Sword Grass.  

Friday 9th September

Another good night of trapping with 225 moths but just 10 species these included 6 Frosted Orange, 2 Burnished Brass, 10 The Snout, 160 Setaceous Hebrew Characters, 7 Light Emerald, 8 Angleshades, 20 Large Yellow Underwings, 5 Common Rustics, Brimstone and 3 Large Thorn.
  
Thursday 8th September


Frosted Orange
A fantastic overnight catch of 314 Moths including 19 species, these are as follows: 3 Frosted Orange, 2 Burnished Brass, 1 Hedge Rustic, 1 Feathered Gothic, 10 The Snout, 200 Setaceous Hebrew Characters, 7 Light Emerald, 13 Angleshades, 40 Large Yellow Underwings, 6 Silver Y, 15 Common Rustics, 3 Antler Moths, 4 Brimstone, 1 Grey Dagger, 1 Spectacle, 3 Large Thorn, 1 Common Wainscot, 1 Centre-barred Sallow  and 2 Common Footman

Friday 2nd September

There was 71 moths caught overnight with 11 different species. The first Large Thorn and Burnished Brass were noted, and once again The Flame was the more dominant with a total of 38 caught. Others included 1 Angle shade, 1 Flame Shoulder, 10 Common Rustics, 3 Small Emeralds, 1 Swallow Prominent, 3 Hart and Dart, 10 Large Yellow Underwings, and 2 The Snout

Thursday 1st September

The overnight catch produced 78 moths including 11 Species. Counts include 41 The Flame, 1 Poplar Hawk Moth, 1 Red Underwing, 9 Brimstone, 8 Common Rustics, 3 Angle shades, 4 Small Emerald, 2 Dark Arches, 1 Large Yellow Underwing, 5 Hart and Dart and 3 Common Wainscot.

Wednesday 31st August

A pretty good night of trapping with 113 moths including 13 species, and are as follows. 1 Swallow Prominent, 2 Canary Shouldered Thorns, 3 Angle shades, 4 Common Rustics, 60 The Flame, 7 Large Yellow Underwings, 9 Brimstones, 2 Peppered Moths, 3 Common Footman, 6 Small Emerald, 3 Dark Arches, 4 Flame Shoulder and 9 Brown tail Moths.

Thursday 25th August

The moth trap was buzzing with activity last night until we turned off the light this morning to find that there was about 100 wasps which had taken over and eaten most of what was caught. Species that were noted included 3 Yellow Shell, 15 Latticed Heaths, 3 Hebrew Character, 1 Garden Tiger, 6 Hart and Dart, 6 Flame Shoulder, 6 Large Yellow Underwing, 2 Angle Shades and 6 Common Footman.

Thursday  18th August

A total of 33 moths were caught overnight, pretty quiet at the moment with just 5 species recorded. These included 1 Red and Green Carpet, 18 Large Yellow Underwings, 6 Flame Shoulders, 6 Common Rustics and 2 Hart and Dart.

Tuesday 16th August

There was a total of 54 moths this morning with just 10 different species, these included 2 Black Arches, 1 Poplar Hawk Moth, 17 Large Yellow Underwings, 8 Common Footman, 5 Common Rustics, 6 Hart and Dart, 4 Angle Shades, 3 Flame Shoulders, 5 Riband Wave and 3 Peppered Moths

Monday 15th August

There was very little caught overnight with just a total of 23 and included just 6 species, these were 1 Black Arches, 7 Large Yellow Underwings, 3 Hart and Dart, 4 Common Rustics, 5 Angle shades and 3 Common Footman.

Friday 5th August


Angle Shades (Walled Garden)
The first night of moth trapping in over a week was very poor with only a total of 26 including just 9 species. At best was 3 Black Arches with the others being 1 Angle Shade, 5 Flame Shoulder, 7 Large Yellow Underwing, 5 Common Rustics, 1 Early Thorn, 2 Dark Arches, 1 Common Footman and 1 Dun Bar

Thursday 28th July


3 Black Arches (Walled Garden)
Not so many moths overnight but the quality was there instead, we managed to trap 79 in total including 27 species including an excellent 3 Black Arches a fantastic moth to say the least, also 3 Poplar Hawk Moths, 2 Mottled Beauty, 1 Buff Ermine, 1 Antler Moth, 4 Yellow Tail, 1 Garden Carpet, 1 Dun Bar, 1 Brown Tail, 1 Brimstone, 7 The Flame, 12 Common Rustics, 1 Light Arches, 5 Flame Shoulder, 1 The Snout, 1 Magpie, 1 Smoky Wainscot, 5 Riband Wave, 1 Scarce Footman, 2 Ruby Tiger, 11 Dark Arches, 2 Large Yellow Underwing, 5 Common Footman, 2 Striped Wainscot, 1 Broad-bordered Yellow Underwing, 1 Angle shade and 3 Silver Y.  

Wednesday 27th July

It was another excellent night of moth trapping with a total of 136 including 33 species and are as follows. 1 Clouded Silver, 1 Dark Spinach, 4 Peppered Moths, 20 Common Footman, 1 Grey Dagger, 1 Elephant Hawk Moth, 1 Poplar Hawk Moth, 3 Magpies, 6 Riband Wave, 1 White Ermine, 2 Small Emerald,  1  Broad-bordered Yellow Underwing, 5 Ruby Tiger, 7 Common Wainscot, 23 Common Rustics, 4 Silver Y, 2 The Spectacle, 5 Dark Arches, 2 Early Thorn, 15 The Flame, 5 Flame Shoulder, 4 Hart and Club, 3 Large Yellow Underwing, 1 Dunbar, 1 Light Arches, 4 Garden Carpets, 2 The Snout, 3 Hart and Dart, 1 Dusky Sallow, 1 Buff Ermine, 1 Yellow Tail, 1 Buff Arches and 4 Yellow Shell.

Not as busy this morning but the weather was a bit cooler last night, in total there was 47 moths including 18 species. Best of all was the Elephant Hawk Moth which put on a nice pose for the camera, others were 5 Common Rustics, 1 Buff Arches, 1 Light Arches, 1 Swallowtail, 5 Common Footman, 3 Large Yellow Underwing, 1 Broad-bordered Yellow Underwing, 5 Riband Wave, 2 Magpies, 2 Yellow Shells, 4 Dark Arches, 3 Common Wainscot, 1 Early Thorn, 7 Hart and Dart, 2 Grey Dagger, 2 Peppered Moth and 1 Rosy Footman

Monday 25th July



Black Arches top picture and Privet Hawk Moth (Walled Garden)
What a fantastic night of moth trapping in the walled garden with 124 Moths including 31 species. Best of all was a Black Arches which is one I have never seen before let alone caught, also a Privet Hawk Moth which is always a nice one to get. Others noted was 2 Grey Daggers, 1 Herald, 13 Garden Carpets, 18 Riband Wave, 2 Poplar Grey, 9 Common Footman, 6 Rosy Footman, 3 Magpies, 1 Small Emerald, 1 Mottled Beauty, 1 Peppered Moth, 4 Brown-line Bright-eye, 24 Common Rustics, 1 Dunbar, 3 Common Wainscot, 5 Dark Arches, 5 Hart and Dart, 3 Large Yellow Underwing, 2 Broad-bordered Yellow Underwing, 2 The Snout, 1 Lesser Yellow Underwing, 1 White Ermine, 1 Brimstone, 2 Tree-lichen Beauty, 2 Striped Wainscot, 4 The Flame, 1 Rosy Minor, 2 Southern Wainscot and 3 Diamond back Moths. 

Friday 22nd July




Worn Pine Hawk Moth top 2 pictures and Rosy Footman (Walled Garden)
Overnight we caught 37 Moths including 12 different species, best of the lot was a worn Pine Hawk Moth, and a very nice Rosy Footman. Others were 3 Water Ermines, 1 Large Emerald, 8 Common Rustics, 3 Garden Carpets, 1 Small Magpie, 3 Large Yellow Underwings, 1 Broad bordered Yellow Underwing, 8 Common Footman, 2 Yellow Shells, 1 Riband Wave and 4 Dark Arches.

Thursday 21st July



Drinker Moth (Walled Garden)
A very poor night for moth trapping with just 26 caught including just 9 different species. Best of all was a Drinker moth caught in the walled garden with the others being 3 Buff Ermines, 4 Hart and Dart, 3 Garden Carpets, 1 Common Wainscot, 5 Common Footman, 3 Small Magpies, 1 Large Yellow Underwing and 5 Common Rustics.

Friday 15th July

A good overnight of trapping with 71 Moths including 13 different species seen, these included 24 Large Yellow Underwings, 1 Peppered Moth, 7 Dark Arches, 1 Elephant Hawk Moth, 1 Poplar Hawk Moth, 3 Common Footmans, 6 Hart and Dart, 3 Red Underwings, 6 Broad bordered Yellow Underwings, 4 Common Wainscots 6 Silver Y, 6 Common Rustics and 3 Yellow Shells

Friday 8th July

The first overnight trapping  produced 62 Moths with 8 different species seen including 38 Large Yellow Underwings, 9 Common Rustics, 3 Common Wainscots, 2 Red Underwings, 3 Hart and Dart, 1 Peppered Moth, 5 Common Footmans and 1 Small Magpie.
