The best bird without a doubt was a Marsh Tit which was seen at the bottom lake this morning, and is the 2nd record for the site. WOW what a fantastic day for birds on site with a total of 63 different species seen (A new site record), and this was down to a new change in wind direction, a north westerly wind which is very good for bird migration during this time of the year. There was also 2 new bird species for the site which included a female Goshawk which headed south/west over the pasture field, and a Bearded Tit which headed high west over the bottom lake (hence record photo shot). A horrible day of heavy cloud and persistent showers, but it still produced some decent sightings. An interesting day with a couple of additions, and included 2 Red-legged Partridges which flew over the bottom lake, also 2 Mediterranean Gulls which headed west late morning. It was another good day for Mistle Thrushes with a total of 28 over the pasture field by the bottom lake. It was a day of sunshine and heavy showers, with most of the birds probably keeping a low profile. Highlight of the day was a very good total of 31 Mistle Thrushes which all headed east over the pasture field by the bottom lake. Generally it was another lovely day, but there was also the odd shower thrown in, however there was an excellent bird on site when a GREENISH WARBLER was heard calling on several occasions early afternoon mixed in with a party of 10 Long-tailed Tits and several Blue Tits high up in some tall Sycamore trees. This is the 2nd record for the site with the other sighting being in 2016. Today was hot but a bit more overcast, nevertheless it was a pretty good day with a nice few birds around. A Kingfisher was at the top lake and was the first sighting for a little while, there was also 3 Spotted Flycatchers near the main house, and a good total of hirundines, with 230 House Martins, 68 Swallows and 145 Swifts. Today was a little quiet compared to recent ones, sightings included 2 Ravens, 2 Spotted Flycatchers, 55 House Martins, 29 Swallows, 82 Linnets, 18 Long-tailed Tits, 37 Swifts, 12 Moorhens, 10 Mallards, 9 Reed Warblers, 3 Reed Buntings, 7 Common Buzzards, 2 Kestrels, 3 Hobbies, 9 Goldcrests, 7 Lesser Black-backed Gulls, 7 Bullfinches, 9 Goldfinches, 6 Blackcaps, 10 Chiffchaffs, 5 Whitethroats, 3 Green Woodpeckers, 2 Great Spotted Woodpeckers, 7 Pied Wagtails, 3 Grey Wagtails, 15 Chaffinches, 61 Jackdaws, 33 Rooks, 9 Coal Tits, 10 Greenfinches, 20 Starlings, 4 House Sparrows, 18 Stock Doves, 4 Yellowhammers and 4 Nuthatches.
Wednesday 14th June
Another very similar day in rather hot and pleasant conditions, there was now 2 Spotted Flycatchers at the top lake and a good number of Treecreepers with 13 present around the site. A Tawny Owl was heard calling in the woodland area by the main house and at least 4 Ravens were still present over nearby pasture fields. Other sightings included 112 Swifts, 41 Swallows, 70 House Martins, 12 Moorhens, 10 Mallards, 9 Reed Warblers, 3 Reed Buntings, 13 Common Buzzards, 2 Kestrels, 3 Hobbies, 3 Linnets, 9 Goldcrests, 4 Lesser Black-backed Gulls, 4 Bullfinches, 22 Goldfinches, 11 Blackcaps, 10 Chiffchaffs, 5 Whitethroats, 6 Green Woodpeckers, 2 Great Spotted Woodpeckers, 4 Pied Wagtails, 3 Grey Wagtails, 10 Long-tailed Tits, 25 Chaffinches, 83 Jackdaws, 18 Rooks, 10 Coal Tits, 10 Greenfinches, 28 Starlings, 2 House Sparrows, 10 Stock Doves, 2 Yellowhammers and 3 Nuthatches.
Today was very very similar in numbers to yesterday, with the exception of 35 Blackbirds, 8 Song Thrushes and 9 Mistle Thrushes. The Spotted Flycatcher remained at the top lake, and there was now 5 Ravens over the pasture fields. There was no sign of the Water Rail but at least 4 Grey Herons were at the bottom lake. It was a very pleasant day with some lovely sunny spells, best of the day was a Spotted Flycatcher at the top lake, also a Kingfisher which was heard calling but not seen. At least 3 Ravens were noted over the pasture fields, and again there was a good number of 178 House Martins and 90 Swallows. There was an interesting record of a summer Water Rail at the bottom lake this morning, also a Kingfisher which passed through, and a probable Red Kite which was very high and distant. Other sightings included 13 Moorhens, 17 Mallards, 9 Reed Warblers, 6 Reed Buntings, 11 Common Buzzards, 5 Kestrels, 3 Ravens, a total 110 House Martins, 79 Swallows, 19 Linnets, 10 Goldcrests, 4 Grey Herons, 4 Bullfinches, 51 Goldfinches, 7 Blackcaps, 8 Chiffchaffs, 8 Whitethroats, 7 Green Woodpeckers, 6 Great Spotted Woodpeckers, 6 Treecreepers, 5 Pied Wagtails, 3 Grey Wagtails, 9 Long-tailed Tits, 30 Chaffinches, 8 Mallards, 91 Jackdaws, 31 Rooks, 8 Coal Tits, 10 Greenfinches, 43 Starlings, 3 House Sparrows, 12 Stock Doves, 3 Yellowhammers and 3 Nuthatches.

There was no sign of the Tufted Ducks today on another lovely sunny day, but instead there was a female Shoveler which headed west over the bottom lake, but it was a good day with a good number of thrushes, totals included 46 Blackbirds, 12 Mistle Thrushes and 11 Song Thrushes (The latter a good number these days). Other sightings included a Grey Heron, 9 Moorhens, 6 Mallards, 6 Reed Warblers, 6 Reed Buntings and a Snipe still. It was another very pleasant day, along with a good number of sightings which included 14 Common Buzzards, 2 Sparrowhawks, 2 Kestrels and 2 Hobbies. there was also a good total of 124 House Martins, 40 Swallows and 40 Linnets. Today was a lovely with glorious spells of sunshine, and in turn produced a good variety of birds. Of interest was the numbers of Chiffchaff's present with a total of 25 around the site, also a Lesser Whitethroat, 3 Whitethroats, 6 Reed Warblers, 5 Blackcaps and a Willow Warbler. Other sightings included 47 Swallows, 61 House Martins, 2 Ravens, 2 Cormorants, 2 Grey Herons, 3 Goldcrests, 22 Linnets, 5 Coal Tits, 6 Green Woodpeckers, 34 Goldfinches, 4 Reed Buntings, 4 Treecreepers, 4 Common Buzzards, 3 Grey Wagtails, 13 Chaffinches, 6 Long-tailed Tits and 2 Pied Wagtails.
It was another dull and miserable day but the bird sightings were not to bad, the first Swifts of the year arrived today with a total of 12 over the bottom lake, also the first Garden Warbler which was in the nearby pasture field. Other sightings included 35 Swallows, 15 House Martins, 3 Chiffchaff's, 5 Reed Warblers, 3 Whitethroats, 3 Blackcaps, 1 Raven, 2 Cormorants, 1 Grey Heron, 3 Goldcrests, 10 Linnets, 3 Coal Tits, 3 Green Woodpeckers, 4 Goldfinches, 4 Reed Buntings, 2 Treecreepers, 2 Common Buzzards, 3 Grey Wagtails, 8 Chaffinches, 6 Long-tailed Tits and 2 Pied Wagtails.
